Nov. 20, 2006
Late in the morning of 20 November a Cormorant Helicopter on a routine training flight from 19 Wing Comox performed a deliberate precautionary landing into a farmer's field roughly nine miles north of the base near Oyster River. The crew felt it was necessary to cease the flight after the aircraft elicited abnormal vibrations. The aircraft was landed without incident and all onboard the aircraft are safe. Technicians were sent to the landing zone to assess the airworthiness of the helicopter and it was determined airworthy and has since flown back to 19 Wing.
Canadian Forces pilots follow strict and clearly defined procedures in emergency and potential emergency situations. The safety of the crew always takes precedence.
