12 Wing Shearwater is located in the heart of the Maritimes near Halifax,
Nova Scotia. The area is known for its friendly hospitality, seaside communities, picturesque fishing villages and miles of rugged Atlantic shoreline.

Visitors to 12 Wing and families posted there will find the communities of Dartmouth and Halifax provide the benefits of city living and charm of small-town life.

Halifax has a diversity of sites and recreational facilities, two universities, live theatre, art galleries, museums, historic sites and festivals throughout the year.

For the latest news out of 12 Wing, people should look to the Trident, the newspaper of Maritime Forces Atlantic. The Shearwater Aviation Museum is a major tourist attraction within the Halifax Regional Municipality. Located on the base, it houses a wide collection of artifacts and displays including vintage Aircraft, photographs, documents and stories depicting Canadian maritime military aviation from 1918 to the present.

In September, Air Force personnel and aircraft support the annual Nova Scotia International Air Show (NSIAS) now located at the Halifax International Airport. The largest two-day outdoor event in the Atlantic Provinces, it is also one of Canada's largest air shows.

For members of 12 Wing and their families, Formation Personnel Support Programs provides a wide range of fitness, recreation and sports services. Take a virtual tour of the Shearwater Gym and visit the Shearwater Yacht Club and Falls Lake Cabins.

The Shearwater Military Family Resource Centre provides services for serving members and their families, including single persons, and partners in common-law relationships living on and off base. It offers a childcare registry, a parents & tots program, a special needs playgroup, on-site daycare, before & after school programs, parenting courses & workshops, counseling and family life education and information and referral services.
