417 Combat Support Squadron is comprised of three CH-146 Griffon helicopters.

Its roles are essentially a carry-over from its past Base Flight days: search and rescue (SAR), medevacs and Cold Lake Air Weapons Range maintenance support.

417 Squadron's helicopters are being deployed more often to participate in national SAR operations since the integration in 1994 of four Search and Rescue technicians. One full crew and helicopter are on standby 24 hours a day.
