Global Warming: Early Warning Signs map. Newly updated.

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) announces process for projects (PDF 25Kb) The Executive Board says the aim is for small scale CDMs.

Kyoto Protocol receives 100th ratification (PDF 30 Kb) as Canada became the latest to join. This should help pave the way for the protocol to be put in force.

Finacial Sector needs to be come more proactive in battling climate change (PressRelease). The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiatives warns of unawareness and lack of commitment to the problem. It offers some concrete solutions. Full report (PDF 0.7 MB).

EEAEuropean Environment Agency announce that the European Union has reached it target for CO2 stabilisation. This covers a period from 1990 to 2000. However, the CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions were higher in 2000 compared with 1999. To see the full report click here.

Major Initiatives

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its 1997 Kyoto Protocol are the key processes for negotiating international climate policies and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
The IPCC is the world's leading scientific body for assessing the scientific, technical and Climate Change 2001 Synthesis Report socio-economic information relevant for understanding climate change. The (September 2001) Climate Change 2001 assessment report confirms that earlier projections of global mean temperature increases were underestimated.
