  John Charles
Planner, Regional Planning
Governance and Strategic Initiatives
Halifax Regional Municipality

John Charles is a planner with Halifax Regional Municipality's (HRM) regional planning office. HRM's regional plan will be a detailed, long range, region wide plan that outlines where, when and how future growth and development should take place in HRM.

John's principal role in regional planning relates to the development of open space plans and accompanying GIS-based inventories of culturally and environmentally significant areas in the municipality.

Prior to joining the regional planning team in May, 2003 he worked as a planner with the Parkland Planning division of HRM's Real Property and Assets Management Business Unit.

John is currently completing a graduate thesis at the Dalhousie University School of Planning on the potential for new municipal roles in coastal management in Canada.
