Our collector and commemorative pieces are a very particular breed of coin. Hand-crafted and minutely detailed, they are struck in precious metals and special alloys. Unlike circulation coins, numismatic coins are issued in restricted mintages, and are available only for a limited time from the Royal Canadian Mint. And though many of these coins are minted as legal tender with a specific denomination struck upon the coin, they are not intended to serve as currency. Their actual worth is usually significantly greater than their "face value."
Past collections have chronicled the evolution of Canadian art and culture in 22-karat gold; our Silver Commemorative Dollars pay tribute to some of the proudest moments in Canada's history.
You can explore these and other collector coins from previous seasons in our Interactive Coin Museum. These coins are no longer for sale at the Mint, but with luck you may find them at a coin dealer. To see our current collector offerings, we invite you to look in The Store.
