The Canadian Circulation Coin Distribution System
In addition to manufacturing coins, the Royal Canadian Mint also manages the Canadian Circulation Coin Distribution System (CCCDS), in coordination with financial institutions and armoured car carriers. Established in 1987 in response to the introduction of the one-dollar coin, the CCCDS manages the distribution of circulation coins across the country to meet the Canadians' needs.

Canadians enjoy one of the most efficient and innovative circulation coin systems in the world. The Royal Canadian Mint plays a unique role in managing that system.

- We produce in excess of 1 billion circulation coins each year
- We have introduced new methods of planning and forecasting, inventory management and coin distribution
- We advise the Federal Minister of Finance on coinage matters
- We are responsible for the supply and distribution of coins across the country
- We coordinate with financial institutions, the vending industry, armoured car carriers and other stakeholders.

An efficient and profitable system

Circulation coinage is more than a business: it is also a source of national pride. The Royal Canadian Mint ensures continuous improvement in our operations in order to generate a better return to our shareholder, the Government of Canada. Since becoming a Crown corporation in 1969, we have provided Canada with more than $1.5 billion in seigniorage.
From time to time, we also involve Canadians in coin design and development so that our national culture is reflected in every coin we produce.

All of Canada's circulation coins, from the 1-cent coin to the bi-metallic $2 dollar coin, are produced at the Royal Canadian Mint's Winnipeg plant, where high-speed coining presses can each strike as many as 750 coins a minute. The Royal Canadian Mint also produces circulation currency for nations worldwide. Over the last 20 years the Royal Canadian Mint has provided over 14 billion coins to other countries.
