Information on the Environment

The Information Centre provides access to materials published by Alberta Environment. Materials include scientific and technical reports, guidelines, annual reports, educational publications and other documents. While most materials may be downloaded directly from our Information Centre, many materials are also accessible through the Alberta Government Library and the interlibrary loan services of your local library.

Alberta Enviroment's information resources are focused on the topics of air, climate change, land, water, and waste. We encourage our guests to visit the websites of other government department to explore information on the following topics:

Searching and Browsing

Alberta Environment invites our website guests to both search and browse for information resources in the Information Centre. You may enter search terms through our search page or home page. We also provide advanced search capabilities on the following fields: Title, Description, Keywords, Catalogue Number, Author and Categories of topics.

Guests may browse resources by selecting major topics from the Quick List located on the Information Centre's homepage.

Guests may also Browse Topics to find documents focused on a multitude of topic areas.

Alberta Government Library

Library services for Alberta Environment are provided by the Alberta Government Library - Great West Life Site. This library also serves Alberta Sustainable Resource Development and Parks and Protected Areas (part of Alberta Community Development). Formerly known as the Alberta Environment Library, this site contains more than 60 000 books, reports, government documents, videos, maps, periodicals, and annual reports pertaining to environmentally related topics.

The library is a depository for Alberta Environment, Alberta Sustainable Resource Development, and Parks and Protected Areas publications. Two copies of all department reports, newsletters and other publications are catalogued and kept in the library collection for lending purposes.

The Great West Life Site library is open 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday (excepting statutory holidays), for use by government employees, industry, academia, and members of the public.

The library is a member of the NEOS Library Consortium and The Alberta Library (TAL). Circulating materials may be borrowed using either a NEOS library card or a TAL library card. The Alberta Government Library - Great West Life collection is included in the NEOS Libraries' Catalogue.
