An effective network of roads and highways fosters the safe, efficient movement of people and goods and contributes to Alberta's economy. Roads and highways directly connect to other transportation modes and are vital to moving Alberta's products to markets both within and outside the province. Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation is responsible for the long-term planning of the highway network and oversees the network's design, construction, and maintenance activities.
