What are some types of violations? |
Violations of legislation, such as the following examples, affect wildlife and fish in Alberta through habitat destruction or by depleting wildlife and fish populations.
- Hunting or fishing out of season
- Night hunting
- Exceeding bag limits
- Illegal sale of wildlife or fish
- Habitat destruction

What should I do when I see or know of a violation? |
Any and all information that you have concerning the suspected violation should be recorded. This information should include such details as the following:
- Date, Time, and Location
- Licence plate number of vehicle
- Registration number of boat
- Vehicle description (including any identifying features, ex. dents, stickers, etc.)
- Description of persons involved
- Details of violation
- All details provided are useful

Contact the nearest Fish and Wildlife Division office or call 1-800-642-3800 as soon as possible. Cellular users can call toll free #3800 on the TELUS Mobility Network. |
What else can I do? |
You've done all you can by calling REPORT A POACHER. Remember NEVER attempt to apprehend a suspect. |
Do I need to give my name? |
No. Anyone who calls the 1-800-642-3800 line or provides information to an Fish and Wildlife Officer or district staff member can remain anonymous. A unique identifier number will be assigned to each caller. This number will be used to identify callers in any future communications. You must retain this number if you wish to claim your reward. |
How do I qualify for a reward? |
If the information you provide concerns a resource violation and results in the laying of a charge, you may be eligible for a reward. The person who receives your information will provide you with the details of the procedure.
Reward amounts are based on the quality of information received, and the extent to which the informant assisted the Fish and Wildlife Officer. The better the information, the higher the reward amount eg) if a vehicle description, licence plate number, and description of the suspect are provided, the informant will receive a greater reward than an informant providing fewer details. |
