Monitoring
Several aspects of pesticide use and environmental impacts are monitored in Alberta. Through the Pesticide Management Program, statistics are gathered from Alberta Pesticide Vendors and pesticide users to determine the type and volume of pesticides used within Alberta. These statistics are compared with pesticide sales and use statistics gathered by other provinces and countries, and are used to assist in the development of pesticide monitoring programs. Statistics concerning pesticide poisoning incidents reported to the Poison Information Line are also collected along with summaries of pesticide incidents reported directly to the Department. This information is used to identify pesticide management practices that require improvement. Special monitoring programs are conducted from time-to-time to address specific issues or concerns regarding pesticide management in different pesticide use sectors. |
