Sales

Pesticide sales in Alberta are regulated at all levels of distribution and transfer to end-users. Wholesale and Retail vendors selling Commercial class pesticides (Alberta Schedules 1 and 2) must hold a valid Agrichemical Warehousing Standards Association (AWSA) Certificate or a Vendor Registration and at least one employee at each Retail outlet must hold a recognized Commercial Pesticide Dispenser Certificate. Vendors selling Domestic class pesticides (Alberta Schedule 3) at Wholesale must be authorized through a Vendor Registration and at least one employee at each Retail outlet must hold a recognized Lawn & Garden Pesticide Dispenser Certificate.

The Agri-chemical industry and Alberta Environment share a common goal to minimize the risk of pesticides to human health and the environment. Commercial Pesticide Vendors must comply with government and industry pesticide storage requirements, and they must ensure that only qualified people receive Schedule 1 and 2 pesticide products. Schedule 1 and 2 pesticides may only be sold to certified pesticide applicators, Service Registration holders, farmers, ranchers, commercial greenhouse operators and market gardeners. Pesticide Vendors selling Schedule 1 pesticides must also provide appropriate information notices to the qualified purchasers. In cases where the label specifies "For use by certified or qualified applicator only", non-certified farmers, commercial greenhouse operators and market gardeners may NOT be sold the pesticide. Lastly, a number of specified Schedule 2 products are available to acreage owners and hobby greenhouse operators.
