Lethbridge Trade Highway Functional Planning Study |
||
Introduction |
||
Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation is currently in the process of
upgrading the North-South Trade Corridor from the US Border in the south
to west of Grande Prairie in the northwest. In the Lethbridge
area, this includes Highways 3 and 4. In recent years these rural
highways have been upgraded to a multi-lane divided expressway standard
as an interim stage prior to the development of a multi lane divided
freeway.
As a continuation of this process, Alberta Transportation has reviewed the long-term requirements for the trade corridor through the Lethbridge area. While the current Highways 3 and 4 will continue to accommodate the local area transportation needs for many years, there is a long-term need for an alternative high-speed freeway route. The attached Highways 3 and 4 Lethbridge and Area NHS and NSTC Functional Planning Study Executive Summary outlines the study findings and recommendations supporting the proposed future alignment for these highways. The recommended alignment has now been adopted and is being incorporated into the future highway network planning for the Lethbridge area. The general location of the future North/South Trade Corridor is shown on the attached maps. These outline plans are intended as a guide to assist local land owners and business owners in planning for the future. The full planning study documentation is available for review by appointment in the Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation Regional Office in Lethbridge. |
