The Heritage Resource Management Branch is organized into three sections: Director's Office including the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation; Archaeology and History; and Protection and Stewardship.

Programming areas of the Branch include:

	The Historical Resources Impact Assessment Program pursuant to Section 37 of the Historical Resources Act;
	The Provincial Designation Program pursuant to Section 20 of the Historical Resources Act;
	The Geographical Names Program of Alberta pursuant to Section 18 of the Historical Resources Act;
	Professional and technical advice and assistance to individuals, organizations and communities involved in heritage preservation;
	Financial assistance through the grant programs of the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation, including the Heritage Preservation Partnership Program and the Alberta Main Street Program;
	Aboriginal consultation in support of heritage preservation.
