Community and voluntary sector initiatives are supported through the Libraries, Community and Voluntary Sector Services Branch, and the Wild Rose Foundation (established in 1984 by the Government of Alberta, the Foundation operates under the authority of the Wild Rose Foundation Act, Chapter W-8) Support is offered in the following ways:
- Providing service and support to communities and community organizations in ways that encourage initiative, self-help, cooperation and partnership building;
- Assisting communities and government departments to adopt a “community development” philosophy;
- Support for public participation initiatives (e.g, Summits);
- Fostering and promoting the use of volunteers;
- Assisting those who volunteer or use the services of volunteers in Alberta;
- Delivering the programs of the Wild Rose Foundation.

- Volunteer and Not-For-Profit Organizations
- Federal and Municipal Governments
Communities have access to support and assistance from the Libraries, Community and Voluntary Sector Services Branch through ten regional offices located across the province. The Branch can provide assistance with:
- facilitation
- leadership and volunteer development
- resource identification and use (financial and human)
- issue identification resolution
- information for assistance or resources available within the community
- information about other agencies and other levels of government.
