A Proposed Co-operatively Owned Beef Processing Plant in Southern Alberta Winding Down Operations

From the Oct 12, 2006 Broadcast of Call of the LandCall of the Land Home

It looks like the beginning of the end for a proposed co-operatively-owned beef processing plant in southern Alberta.

The board of New Generation Processors Co-op is winding down operations.

Board secretary Betty Cyr says everything is in limbo as the co-op works with its lawyer.

The board had proposed construction of a 42 million-dollar cattle packing plant in Pincher Creek which also included a biodigester electrical generation plant.

Board president Ken Lewis has said in previous reports that the lack of government funding hurt the proposed plant.
