Call of the Land Calendar for October 24, 2006

 And on our Call of the Land Calendar...Alberta Beef Producers fall meetings continue tonight. There’s a 7:30 p.m. meeting at the Stavely Community Hall, and a 7 p.m. meeting at the West Country Centre at Sundre. There is only one meeting tomorrow, and that’s at the Cochrane Ranch House at 7 p.m.

Also tonight, a Mineral Rights Information Session will be taking place at the Cultural Recreation Centre in Vulcan, getting underway at 7 pm. For information, call 403-245-4438.

Wainwright is the site of Market Masters—Marketing Options in a Changing Environment. It’s an information session to assist in making good marketing decisions this fall. On the agenda, Peggy Checkel who will be discussing price discovery, break evens and direct marketing, along with value added chains for primary producers; and Lyndsay Rutledge who will be looking at the cattle cycle, markets and related trends. The session takes place on Saturday morning at the Wainwright Communiplex. You are asked to register by tomorrow. To do so, call the Wainwright Municipal Office at 780-842-4454.

Joel Salatin is in the province giving his presentation Family Friendly Farming at a number of locations this week. He’s at the Westlock Memorial Hall tomorrow, the Fort Saskatchewan Dow Centennial Centre on Thursday, and the Redwater Derrick Hall and Muir Lake Community Hall on Friday. Call the Northwest Alliance Conservation Initiative at 780-939-8339 for tickets.

The Grassroots Cattle Conference comes to St. Paul on Thursday, and will feature such topics as evaluating the economics of grazing and grazing systems, anthrax in Alberta, and the future of the Canadian beef cattle industry. Call 780-650-5444 for more information.
