Call of the Land Calendar for November 6, 2006

 And on our Call of the Land Calendar....Today is the deadline to register for the CWB Grain Marketing Options and Introduction to Grain Grading for Women course that’s being offered at Lakeland College. The course runs November 8 and 9 at the Vermilion campus. To register, call 1-800-661-6490.

There are three Alberta Beef Producers fall meetings tonight, all of them getting underway at 7 p.m.—at the Milo Community Hall, the Myrnam Senior Centre, and the Dunvegan Motor Inn in Fairview. The Fairview meeting is preceded by a beef on a bun supper at 6 p.m.

We’ve got a Horse Health and Pasture Management workshop tomorrow at the Pinedale Hall east of Edson. Topics include horse health, nutrition, pasture management and grazing techniques. For more information or to register call the Yellowhead County Wildwood Office at 1-800-814-3935.

Tomorrow is the first of four Alberta Pork Regional Information Meetings, all of which get underway at 10 a.m. The meetings are being held this week—tomorrow at the Grande Prairie Inn, Wednesday at the Westlock Inn, Thursday at the Capri Inn and Conference Centre in Red Deer, and Friday at the Lethbridge Lodge.

Wednesday sees another regional information session for farmers’ market managers and vendors. It’s taking place at 1 p.m. at the Bonnyville Provincial Building. To register, contact Melisa at 780-427-6403. The final information session is November 15 in Okotoks.

Also Wednesday a zone meeting for the Alberta Sheep and Wool Commission, taking place at the Alberta Sheep Centre in Airdrie, getting underway at 8 p.m. There are three other zone meetings this week—Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Stettler Rec Centre, Friday also at 7:30 p.m. at the Stony Plain Provincial Building, and Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Vegreville Ag Society.

Wednesday is the deadline to register for the Kalyna Country Ag-Tourism Meeting and Workshop that’s being held on the 15th. For more information or to register, call 1-888-452-5962.

Thursday is a Cottage Fruit Wine and Mead Workshop in Nisku. This workshop will cover the production, marketing and financial aspects of fruit wine and mead. It’s directed to fruit producers and beekeepers who are considering an on-farm winery as part of their business operation. Call the Ag Info Centre at 310-FARM for more information.

Also Thursday it’s the Alberta Winter Wheat Producers Commission Annual General Meeting. It’s taking place in the lower lounge of the Centrium at Westerner Park in Red Deer, and is set to get underway with registration at 9:30 a.m.

And Friday the Canadian Association of Farm Advisors is hosting a presentation for farm advisors to learn about such things as industry trends and the critical issues facing the agriculture industry in western Canada. For information go to www.cafanet.com and click on conferences.
