The Province Commits Millions to Strengthen Agricultural Research

From the Nov 20, 2006 Issue of Call of the LandCall of the Land Home

Our province’s research capacity will continue to grow with a commitment of 30-million dollars by the provincial government towards upgrading greenhouse facilities and purchasing research lands. Agriculture Minister Doug Horner says the funds are necessary for Alberta to remain a leader in both crop and animal research. The new greenhouses at the Crop Diversification Centre in Brooks will house small-scale research projects, large production environmental ranges that simulate conditions in a commercial greenhouse operation and administrative offices and labs. The 15-million-dollar upgrades will help the centre research crop production and protection for our province’s 110-million-dollar per year greenhouse industry. In addition, 15-million-dollars will be used to purchase land housing a number of agri-food industry research projects.
