Today is the Deadline for Canadian Wheat Board Ballots

From the Dec 1, 2006 Broadcast of Call of the LandCall of the Land Home

Today is the deadline for farmers to mail in Canadian Wheat Board director election ballots for the odd-numbered districts. Just over 31-thousand farmers are eligible to vote compared to more than 45-thousand in the last election. In October, Federal Agriculture Minister Chuck Strahl announced only farmers that had sold grain through the wheat board in the past two years would automatically go on the voters list. The remaining one could cast ballots only if they filled out a statutory declaration form. Twelve hundred farmers went through the extra paperwork.
