| The municipalities of Clear Hills, Fairview and Peace (CHFP) through their Alberta Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture (AESA) Program are co-hosting the 2006 Conference on Opportunities in Agriculture, Sustainability & the Environment.
Billed as the Powering the Peace conference and devoted to biodiesel, it will be held December 1 and 2, 2006, in Fairview, Alberta. Conference proceedings will take place on the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Fairview Campus.
The municipal extension partnership along with their conference co-host, the Fairview Agricultural Society extend an invitation to all interested Albertans to register soon for this biodiesel conference.
"Our vision is one of empowering the Peace by powering it on biodiesel," says event chairman, Gerard Aldridge, rural extension specialist, Clear Hills, Fairview and Peace (CHFP) in the Alberta Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture (AESA) Farm Based Extension Program. "With speakers participating from across North America, the conference will have information of value to a wide group of target audiences and organizations."
Lyle Estill, author of the book, Biodiesel Power is just one example of the caliber of speakers on the conference agenda. Estill, vice-president of Piedmont Biofuels in Chatham County, North Carolina, will relate experiences and insights that will be invaluable to anyone wanting to make biodiesel available and affordable.
Dr. Goran Jovanovic, professor of chemical engineering at Oregon State University will detail the university’s cutting-edge research on the use of microtechnology in making biodiesel as a vehicle in development of distributed energy production.
The conference slate will be rounded out by participation from manufacturers and distributors of biodiesel processing units, a major Saskatchewan based producer as well as some newly established Peace Country biodiesel producers.
"There will also be a conference component on managing fleets on biodiesel," adds Aldridge.
The CHFP entered into an agricultural extension partnership through the AESA program in 2004. Part of the 2005 to 2007 AESA program delivery was to involve and cooperate with area Agricultural Societies in environmentally sustainable agricultural extension.
"This conference is this year's premier extension event for the dedicated ESA (Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture) Committee," says Aldridge. "A special thank you for co-hosts, the Fairview Agricultural Society for having the foresight to be involved."
