The Canadian Farmers With Disabilities Registry (CFWDR) is a national organization that promotes farm safety and provides resources and encouragement to disabled farmers and their families. The registry tracks where and how farm accidents happen, and the types of disabilities sustained. It provides meaningful statistics for the development of future farm safety initiatives and identifies support programs required for those with disabilities. Through a united voice, these concerns can be approached collectively. The provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan are currently represented.

CFWDR peer support is offered by disabled farmers or family members who have realize first hand the full extent of the damage caused by a serious accident or illness. These volunteers have ‘been there, done that’ and know the practical issues and challenges that injured persons will face. Volunteers realize that their own hard earned wisdom in dealing with an accident, sickness and/or disability needs to be passed on to others.

The CFWDR is looking for a person from Alberta who has sustained an agriculture injury and who would be interested in taking on a volunteer leadership role to represent the province. Types of injuries or disabilities range from disease, loss of sight or hearing, to amputations and paralysis. Alberta farmers, their family members or farm workers with any type of permanent injury, illness, or disability who would like more information about CFWDR, or would be interested in becoming involved, are asked to contact Carl Palmer, CFWDR chairman, at or by phone/fax (902) 847-9420.
