Cherry Hill, Deb Bennett and Duane Latimer are among the line-up of speakers slated for the 25th Annual Horse Breeders and Owners Conference. The conference, organized by the Horse Industry Association of Alberta and the horse industry section of Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, is being held in Red Deer on January 12 to 14, 2007.

Albertans who breed or own horses, work in the equine industry in some capacity, or are simply horse enthusiasts, won’t want to miss the opportunity to learn from 17 internationally recognized speakers from all parts of North America, as well as Holland and Australia.

This year the 20 conference sessions cover a wide range of topics including:

  • Little Things You Can Do to Improve Your Horse – Deb Bennett
  • Being Prepared to Perform – Anna Mitchell
  • Better Horsekeeping – Cherry Hill
  • Preparing to Drive – Brian Coleman
  • Conversation with a World Champion – Duane Latimer
  • Common Sense Hoof Care - Meeting Your Horse’s Needs – Mitch Taylor
  • ‘Cash is King’- Improving Your Bottom Line – Linda Connors
  • Testing & Selection of Sport Horses – Dirk Rosie
  • Identifying & Managing Suspensory Problems – Michael Ball
  • Racing in Alberta - What the Future Holds – David Reid
  • The Last 30 Years and What We Learned – Dr. Hugh Townsend
In addition to the educational aspect of the conference, event sponsors will be on-hand for the weekend to exhibit and talk about their equine products and services. Saturday night features the awarding of the prestigious Alberta Horse Industry Distinguished Service Award as well as live entertainment sponsored by Horse Racing Alberta.

“This conference offers different programs designed to fit different equine interests,” says Les Burwash, manager of horse programs with Alberta Agriculture, Airdrie. “Conference participants can attend any of the sessions and will receive the printed materials from all sessions.”

Conference pre-registration is $85 per person and cost for additional individuals registered at the same time from the same farm is $60. Registration at the door is $85 per person and no farm discounts will be available.
