| A new CD ROM, Agri-food value chains - from concept to a powerful, practical business strategy was recently released by the Alberta Value Chain Initiative. This interactive CD ROM captures an international focus to value chain development and features the international value chain experts and global speakers who attended the Global Links: Truth about Value Chains Conference in Calgary in May 2005. This project takes a more in-depth look at the topics explored during the conference.
"The Global Links conference left Alberta businesses wanting more," says Laura Lee Billings, value chain initiative leader with Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, Airdrie. "This CD includes segments where several conference presenters go into more detail on how they formed successful value chains, allowing the viewer to learn from their experiences."
The CD ROM is an opportunity to hear from business leaders and learn more about the importance of a value chain approach to the agriculture and food business. Each video clip provides information on the importance of this approach to business, presents reasons why retailers, food service, processors and producers have applied this approach, and shares learning from their experiences.
"This information is useful to Agri-food based businesses wanting to learn about the benefits of creating value chains," adds Billings. "This tool can be used to help get a value chain started."
The CD was developed by the Value Chain Initiative, led by the Agriculture and Food Council of Alberta, in partnership with Agriculture and Agri-food Canada and Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development. It is being distributed free of charge to Alberta agri-food businesses and others interested in the benefits of value chain relationships.
Copies of the CD are available from Agriculture and Food Council of Alberta by calling Helen Simpson at (780) 955-3714 or e-mailing a request.
