Amendment introduced to eliminate aviation fuel tax on international flights

Edmonton The Fuel Tax Amendment Act, 2004 (Bill 23) was introduced in the Alberta Legislature today by Revenue Minister Greg Melchin.

Key to the proposed amendment is aligning the legislation with the government's recent decision to eliminate the 1.5 cent per litre Alberta aviation fuel tax on eligible international passenger and cargo flights, including those to the United States. Elimination of this tax will increase the competitiveness of Alberta's aviation industry to attract additional international passenger and cargo air service to Alberta. This change became effective on March 1, 2004.

The Fuel Tax Amendment Act also includes amendments that will strengthen controls, and address administrative concerns.
