Aircraft
Although 16 Wing is a non-flying Wing, there are several aircraft that
are kept at the Wing and in Borden for various purposes.
At CFSATE,
home of Canadian Forces aircraft technical training, a large number of
instructional airframes provide
hands-on experience to students of the Military Occupation Code (MOC)
500 series - the Air Trades. CFSATE maintains a fleet of nineteen
CT-114
Tutor aircraft, as well as
several other types of airframes.
Given Borden's rich Air Force heritage, it is no surprise that a significant
historical aircraft
collection is put on display for public viewing. These
can be seen around the Wing, some outdoors and others indoors at the Air
Force Annex of the Base Borden Military Museum.
In addition to historical and instructional aircraft, Borden is also
home to a squadron of CH-146
Griffon helicopters. Even
though 400
Tactical Helicopter Squadron (THS) is not part of 16 Wing,
there is a close working relationship between the two as a result of their
co-location in Borden.
