Alberta's Seven Main River Basins


Alberta's River Basins

  1. First select a Water Basin by either clicking the water basin on the map OR by selecting the water basin from this list. Then go to #2. to select the type information want to see for the selected water basin.

        

  2. Next, after the water basin has been selected, select the type of information you want to see. Then click View Result.

        

     

    The Hay River Basin is located in the northwest portion of the province. The Hay River originates in British Columbia's Rocky Mountains, and flows from the Hay River eventually make their way to the Arctic Ocean. The basin has a drainage area of 47,900 km2 at the Alberta-Northwest Territories border. The mean annual discharge at the border is 3,630,000 dam3. Sub-basins within the Hay River Basin include the Chinchaga and the Little Hay. Zama Lake and Hay Lake are two lakes in the basin which are recognized for their importance to wildlife.
