Alberta's Drinking Water ProgramAlberta has a long history of providing safe drinking water to Albertans. Potable water is regulated by Alberta Environment under the environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) and the Potable Water Regulation. The Potable Water Regulation makes the health-related parameters of the Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines legal requirements for drinking water treatment systems in Alberta.
The province's drinking water program adopts the multi-barrier approach, and includes the following key elements:
