Operations and Infrastructure Maintenance

WMO is responsible for managing, operating, and maintaining all Provincially owned water management projects.

Activities include:

  • Normal, drought and flood operations management
  • Operational maintenance planning and implementation (Southern Operations and Northern/Central Operations)
  • Non-operational maintenance planning and implementation in partnership with Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation. (AIT)
  • Maintenance management of a SCADA system that monitors and controls flow regulation at government-owned structures.
  • Geotechnical and structural instrumentation and monitoring of water management structures
  • Preparation and testing of Emergency Preparedness (EPP) and Emergency Response (ERP) Plans (Dam Safety)
  • Development of Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance (OM&S) Plans (Dam Safety)
  • Capital maintenance and rehabilitation planning including design review, construction review and commissioning
