Canadian Dam Association Award to Marion Houston

Marion Houston, Sr. Dam Safety Engineer with Water Management Operations is the 2005 recipient of the Canadian Dam Association (CDA) Peter Halliday Award for Service. The Award was presented at the CDA 2005 Conference Banquet in Calgary Alberta on October 4, 2005 in front of more than 300 peers and colleagues.

The Peter Halliday Award for Service to the CDA recognizes the efforts of members who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the CDA, and have made valued contributions to the advancement of the association.

Marion's extensive contributions to CDA include:

• Editor of the CDA Dam Safety Guidelines 1999, an industry standard document for dam safety in Canada.
• Writer of the section on Operation, Maintenance and Surveillance Manuals for dams for the 2006 edition of the CDA Dam Safety Guidelines
• Chair for the CDA Environmental Committee
• Current member of the CDA Regulators Committee
• Co-writer for the Dams and the Environment Section and the section on the Dams in Alberta for the CDA publication Dams in Canada .
• Editor and translator for the English text version of the Nicolet Commission report on the Saguenay Flood.
• Ran the “Ask an Expert” section and responded to hundreds of questions on the CDA website.
• Author of the “Frequently Asked Questions” section of the CDA website.
• Presented papers at the CDA annual conferences in 1986, 1989, 1990, 2001, 2005, and served as section chair at many of the conferences.
• Coordinated Alberta's review of Quebec's proposed Dam Safety Legislation.
• Coordinator between the CDA and Mining Association of Canada (MAC).
• Presented a Dam Safety workshop to the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

Marion's contributions to the Canadian Dam Association are impressive and deserving of the award.
