The MLA Committee on Métis Harvesting was established in June 2005. The Report of the MLA Committee recognizes the right of Métis people to harvest fish and wildlife for food, and makes a number of helpful recommendations that will guide negotiations on a new harvesting agreement. The recommendations strike a balance between wildlife conservation and the Métis right to harvest for food. The recommendations were presented to the ministries of Justice, Sustainable Resource Development, and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development. The Alberta government has accepted the report and the recommendations.
