What are the eligibility requirements to receive PDD supports?

PDD provides supports to adults who have a "developmental disability", which PDD defines as a state of functioning that begins in childhood and is characterized by significant limitations in both intellectual capacity and adaptive skills. Three criteria are used to determine eligibility for PDD supports:

  1. onset prior to age 18 years,
  2. significantly below average intellectual, capacity; and
  3. related limitations in two or more of the following adaptive skill areas: communications, self-care, home living, social skills, community use, self-direction, health & safety, functional academics, work, and leisure. To learn more about eligibility requirements, please contact your PDD Community Board by clicking here. (This will connect them to the Community Board Section of the web site).

What job opportunities are available at PDD?

Any positions within PDD that are open to the public (as well as those that are restricted to select Government employees) are listed on the Government of Alberta Website Job Posting Board. The Job Posting Board is updated several times a day, and competitions are generally open for applications/resumes for a minimum of one week. The category titled "Open Competitions" is a listing of all positions where there is no restriction to apply. All applicants would be subject to the competitive process, and those having the required job requisites, could be contacted for further review.

In addition, you may also want to consider opportunities with PDD's contracted service agencies. Available positions are generally advertised locally. As well, a number of agencies will accept unsolicited resumes to retain on file, should a vacancy occur.

Can I get AISH from PDD?

No. Although many people that receive supports through PDD also receive income support from AISH, they are separate programs. AISH is an income support.

The funding/money from AISH is for a person's basic living needs, like rent, food, and clothing.

The funding/money from PDD pays for staffing to support individuals with developmental disabilities to participate in their communities.

General information about the AISH program may be found at http://www.seniors.gov.ab.ca/AISH/index.asp.
