 What We Do…

The Consumer Product Testing Centre is part of the Food Processing Development Centre of Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development. We work with Alberta’s agri-food industry to develop new food products and processes that help add value to Alberta’s agricultural commodities.

We are looking for consumers between the ages of 18-65 to help evaluate some of these new food products. We have a database of people who currently participate in taste panels and we would like to invite you to become involved. If you are eligible, we pay an honorarium of $10 to $25, depending on how long the panel will take and the type of product that is evaluated. Some groups use the honorarium to fundraise for charities or other events.

Here's What’s Involved:

  • Fill out a confidential registration form so we can contact you about upcoming panels
  • Due to strict policy, we cannot take panellists with allergies to the following foods: nuts, seeds, eggs, milk, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat or sulphites
  • Consumers fitting the panel demographic requirements will be contacted, and if available booked for an appointment at our discretion
  • Ingredient listings of the products will always be provided for you to review before you begin
  • Using a computer program, there will be a simple questionnaire for you to fill out for each sample you evaluate
  • Panels usually require 10-30 minutes to complete
  • Panel participation is normally limited to 3-4 times a year
  • Occasionally we conduct home-use tests that allow panellists to evaluate products in the comfort of their own home
Panellist Do’s and Don’ts
