Prior to April 2002, Health Regions submitted inpatient information electronically according to the annual Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) Abstracting Manual. As much as possible, CIHI and Alberta Health and Wellness verified that the information conformed to the coding guidelines of the Abstracting Manual but Alberta Health and Wellness is unable to verify whether the information submitted is complete or accurate.

Beginning April 2002, Health Regions submitted inpatient information electronically to Alberta Health and Wellness according to the annual Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) Abstracting Manual.
