Our Mission

International Relations

Advances Alberta's interests internationally by building strategic relationships with governments outside of Canada. This includes working with Foreign Affairs Canada, foreign governments, the diplomatic community, business associations, community groups, academic institutions and other groups to advance Alberta's interests in key international markets.

Key activities include:

  • Cross-government leadership in the implementation of the Framework for Alberta's International Strategies (PDF, new browser window)
  • Enhancing regional and transboundary cooperation with the United States
  • Coordination of multi-sector strategic relationships (twinnings) with sub-national governments in key countries
  • Coordinating Alberta participation in international assistance projects in the governance area
  • Promoting the Alberta Advantage to international decision-makers in Alberta and abroad
  • Providing Alberta input on Canadian foreign policy on priority issues
