Resident Youth Hunting Licences

Subject to the age limitations and conditions listed above, a resident 12 to 17 years of age may purchase a Resident Youth Wildlife Certificate (see General Requirements below), including a Game Bird Licence, for $7.75. The holder of a valid Resident Youth Wildlife Certificate may also purchase a Youth White-tailed Deer Licence and a Youth Mule Deer Licence, each for $7.75. This person may also purchase an Antlerless Mule Deer Licence (available through a draw) for $7.50. Partner Licences are also available to resident youths if designated by the holder of any special licence.

General Requirements

  • Before purchasing any hunting or fishing licence, or applying on a draw for a special hunting licence, a person must hold a valid Wildlife Identification Number (purchased for $8.00 and valid for five years [see Licensing System]).
  • All hunters must possess a valid Wildlife Certificate plus the applicable licences for the species and seasons hunted.
  • In addition, Bow hunters must possess a Bowhunting Permit.

The WIN, wildlife certificate and licences may be purchased at any private licence vendor across the province.

Licence fees are based on where a hunter resides. In Alberta, hunters are classified as either Residents, Non-residents (Canadians) or Non-resident Aliens (non-Canadians).
Residents are Canadian citizens or landed immigrants who reside in Alberta.
Non-residents (Canadians) are hunters who do not have their main residence in Alberta, but do reside in Canada.
Non-resident Aliens are hunters who do not reside in Canada.

The following table lists the fees for representative hunting licences in Alberta. Fees are in Canadian dollars and do not include the 7 percent federal Goods and Services Tax (GST). A complete list of all licences and fees is provided in the current Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations (available on-line or in hard copy).
