The addition of nine new Parent Link Centres and a new website will help Alberta parents get their children off to a good start in life.
When the nine new centres open, Alberta will have 45 Parent Link Centres across the province. The centres are designed for children up to six years old. Each centre offers a range of services for families, which include:
- play-based learning activities for children and parents
- workshops and seminars on parenting and early childhood development issues
- toy-lending and resource libraries
- family counselling
- information about other resources in the community
The new virtual Parent Link Centre provides information on:
- choosing child care
- communicating with your child
- behaviour and discipline
- health and safety
- becoming a parent
Content on the site will be updated regularly to reflect the concerns of Alberta parents.
The province is investing more than $2 million a year to fund the nine new centres. This brings the total funding for Alberta’s 45 centres to more than $11 million a year. Last year nearly 16,000 parents visited Parent Link Centres, and 27,000 parents are expected to visit this year.
