Welcome to the Town of Cardston.

Area Overview

Nestled in the rolling foothills of southwest Alberta, just 30 minutes from the majesty of
Waterton/Glacier International Peace Park, Cardston was established in 1887 by Mormon
pioneers from Utah who travelled to Alberta in one of the century's last covered wagon
migrations.

Today, the Town of Cardston is a thriving community of approximately 3,500 people
that serves a trading area of 13,000. The town has returned to is pioneer heritage and
has developed several of its historical/tourist facilities to celebrate it's rich background.

Cardston has a wide array of recreational facilities available, including ball parks, and
numerous boating and fishing areas. There is also the Cardston Lee Creek Golf Course,
ice skating, a swimming pool, tennis courts, hiking trails, and several recreation parks,
picnic areas and playgrounds.

Remington Carriage Museum

The Remington Carriage Museum is a world-class museum focusing on the era of 19th
Century horse-drawn transportation. The Remington Museum showcases one of North
America's largest collections of elegant carriages, buggies and utility wagons in a 65,000
square foot interpretive and interactive facility. Galleries feature vehicles in a unique
indoor turn-of-the-century townscape that is enhanced by artful lighting and sound.
The Museum also has an 80-seat theatre, gift shop, cafeteria, Tourist Information
Centre, working stable, blacksmith/restoration shop and tack rooms.

The Cardston Alberta Temple

The Alberta Temple is one of southern Alberta's most recognized landmarks. Constructed
by Mormon pioneers who settled in Cardston in 1887, while still residing in log houses
and barely able to eke out an existence, the temple was opened in 1923 after 10 years
of construction. The Alberta Temple became the centrepiece of the Town. It was the
first temple constructed by the Church outside of the continental U.S.

The Card Pioneer Home is a genuine "Little House on the Praire" It was built by
Cardston's founder Charles Ora Card in 1887 and served as a community centre and
stopping place for travelers until the first hotel was built in 1894. The log structure still
stands in its original Location and is open for public visitations as a Registered Provincial
Historic Site.

The Courthouse Museum

The Courthouse Museum showcases an amazing record of how a rough country changed
dramatically. The unique sandstone structure was built in 1907 from stone quarried just
a few miles from Cardston. The building's striking profile and beautifully finished interior
stands as a monument to Cardston's early pioneer artisans. The Courthouse Museum is
a designated Provincial Historic Site.

villages, buffalo, wild animals and an active western town all on a 1/12 scale. Featured
also are Indian carvings and painting, along with over 150 authentic 1/24 scale model

The Cobblestone Manor is a designated Alberta Historic Resource, built in the late 1800's
by the first pioneers who settled in Cardston. In 1913 a Belgium Finishing carpenter by
the name of Henry Hoet purchased the two story log house and covered the exterior of
the original house using exposed river rock. The interior is finished with Old World Charm,
intricate Woodwork using rare hardwood, Authentic Tiffany Glass Lamps and lighted
china cabinets surrounding two of the original fireplaces. Henry was building this for a
sweetheart in Belgium who never joined him. The Cobblestone Manor is now open as a
Bed & Breakfast and Restaurant.

Fay Wray Monument
Main Street

The Fay Wray Monument commemorates one of Cardston's most famous citizens. Miss
Fay Wray was born on a wilderness ranch Southwest of the Town in 1907 and was
carried to fame in the hand of the giant gorilla in the 1933 film classic "King Kong". Miss
Wray appeared in nearly eighty movies during the course of a leading lady career in
Hollywood's Golden Age.

southwest of Lethbridge and 234 km south of Calgary.
