Eckville

Welcome

Eckville is a small community but one we are very proud of. Our gratitude goes out to
the many folks who came to this land in the early years who with perseverance and
determination made Eckville what it is today: a vibrant community with warm hospitality.

Today, this prosperous growing community is the centre for agriculture, oil and gas, and
lumber enterprises, as well as a major centre for people to live in and enjoy the "small
town atmosphere" with the "big town amenities".

Eckville offers the visitor and resident alike a full range of retail businesses, shopping,
restaurants, public services, banks, excellent sporting facilities, a community centre,
senior's friendship centre, senior's lodge, and golf courses, to name just a few.

Annual events include the 50's/60's Dance Jamboree, winter carnival, rodeo, curling
bonspiels, all kinds of tournaments, including hockey, baseball and school sports.

Please feel welcomed here - YOU ARE!

Sincerely yours,

Helen Posti
Mayor of Eckville

Area Overview

The Town of Eckville was incorporated as a village in 1921 and became a town in 1966.

The rich farmland surrounding Eckville was homesteaded in the early 1900's by settlers
from all corners of the world, particularly Finland and Estonia. In the mid-1960's, Eckville
experienced rapid growth when oil and natural gas was discovered in the area. Today,
both farming and energy industries provide the mainstay of the local economy, with a
trading area of 7,000 residents.

Eckville is located in the heart of the Parkland surrounded by scenic rolling hills, winding
rivers, rich mixed farmland and a thriving oil and gas field.

Within easy access of Eckville are major lakes, trout ponds, campgrounds, unique guest
ranches and two golf courses. Other attractions include a pottery and weaving studio
as well as an excellent sky diving zone.
