Carmangay

Welcome

Welcome to Carmangay! With a beautiful blend of prairie, river valley, and mountains, the Village of Carmangay is the perfect place for any couple to raise a family. Carmangay offers unlimited opportunites for business, industrial or residential projects. Affordable, fully serviced lots, low taxes and a unique geographical location provides opportunities galore for you and your family.

Area Overview

Carmangay is the oldest municipality in Vulcan County. C.W. Carman and his wife (nee Gay), settled in 1907. The Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) branch line made Carmangay a "boom town" in its' early years. During this time, the rail line extended only as far as Carmangay. The prosperity ended in 1911 when the bridge over the Little Bow River was completed, and the rail line then extended north. Nevertheless, Carmangay continues to progress. Carmangay is the "Home of Southern Hospitality" and offers an excellent quality of life with family and country-style living, fresh air, blue skies and a progressive community spirit.

Community Services

Carmangay has a very active curling rink and has bonspiels for all ages.

A Seniors Center offers various activities during the year.

A Public Library is available and is part of the Chinook Arch Library System.

Little Bow Continuing Care Center offers a baby clinic once per month, lifeline responder, an adult day support program, handibus service and meals on wheels.

Community Lifestyle

Carmangay is the oldest municipality in Vulcan County and is the home of two sites designated as Historical Buildings by the Alberta Government. The Fire Hall is over 90 years old and houses the first fire truck ever owned by the Village. The United Church of Canada continues to hold Church services and is available for country weddings. Call the Village Office for information.

The McFarland Trail offers spectacular views of the prairie, river valley and mountains. The trail ends at the steel bridge, built in 1928, which spans the coulees. Along the way you can rest and enjoy the peacefulness that is common in this Village.
The Village Campground is the starting point for the McFarland Nature Trail. With the camp kitchen, group and individual firepits, and the playground close by, this makes a nice, peaceful atmosphere to relax.

The Carmangay Sports Day and Fair is hosted on the first weekend in August. A baseball tournament and a fair where handicrafts, baking and canning are displayed and judged are popular events held during the day.
