Area Overview

The Village of Consort is a farming and ranching community located at the crossroads of Highway 12 and Highway 41.

The Neutral Hills are located 17 miles north of Consort. Indian folklore has it that the hills were raised by the Great Spirit to keep two warring tribes from coming together. According to the legend, the Indian scouts were greatly amazed to see the row of hills suddenly appear. They followed the hills along to the Little Gap; there they held a great council, made peace and buried their hatchets. They pledged never again would they wage war on one another. Hence, "Neutral" Hills. The highest point in the hills is marked by a stone cairn, and fire and teepee rings can still be found on some hills.
