In June 2005, the Government of Alberta announced a review of the Dependent Adults Act and the Personal Directives Act to make sure that these acts would meet the needs of Albertans.
To gather input, a discussion guide with survey questions was developed and sent to private guardians, trustees, family members of dependent adults, health care providers and community groups. Albertans who were interested in answering the survey questions could also find the discussion guide on government websites. The Legislative Review Survey Results Report is available on the Alberta Seniors and Community Supports website (off-site).
Public consultation sessions were held in Grande Prairie, Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, Fort McMurray and St. Paul. Many Albertans have shared their stories, concerns and provided ideas for changes to this legislation. For detailed information regarding the public consultation sessions visit the Alberta Seniors and Community Supports website (off-site).
