Provincial Offences Procedures Act (POPA) review

Ron Stevens, QC Minister of Justice and Attorney General has established the Provincial Offences Procedure Review Steering Committee, chaired by Thomas Lukaszuk, the MLA for Edmonton Castle Downs. The committee will conduct a review of the Provincial Offences Procedure Act (POPA) and provide the Minister with a report on ways to make this act more efficient and effective. POPA sets out the procedures to be used for contraventions of provincial acts, regulations, and orders, as well as municipal bylaws.

We invite those who may be affected by the results of this review, to provide us with their input regarding POPA and its procedures through the stakeholder consultation guide. It outlines specific issues and concerns and asks the reader questions about how these matters should be addressed. Please feel free to share this information with other groups or individuals within your organization or department who are involved with POPA.

The deadline for stakeholder submissions is September 15, 2006.
