Alberta's personal tax advantage results from a low single rate tax system, including the highest basic and spousal exemptions in the country, no general sales tax, the lowest gasoline tax rate among the provinces, and low property taxes.

Alberta businesses have among the lowest business taxes in Canada

Alberta's business tax advantage results from low corporate income tax rates, no capital tax, no general sales tax, no payroll tax, and the lowest gasoline tax among the provinces.

  • This graph shows the total additional provincial taxes that individuals and businesses would pay if Alberta had the same tax systems as the other provinces. The comparison also includes government revenues from health care insurance premiums and alcohol.
  • If Albertans and Alberta businesses lived or were located in any other province, they would pay an additional $7.2 billion in taxes.
  • In addition, over $1.3 billion was provided to Albertans earlier this year through the Alberta 2005 Resource Rebate. Our low tax environment means more money to spend and invest, helping to sustain the strongest economy in Canada.
