Great blue herons, eastern kingbirds, northern orioles, mourning doves and tree swallows are commonly seen at this site on the Bow River. The flats provide a varied habitat of willow margins, tall cottonwoods and brushy slopes for an impressive spectrum of songbirds.

Water birds include American white pelicans, Canada geese and many duck species. Here, public access is provided to the Bow River and its world class populations of brown trout.

mallard duckAlong the crest of the river valley, birds of prey such as prairie falcons and red-tailed hawks can often be seen patrolling the hillsides for small birds and mammals. Golden eagles and rough-legged hawks may be seen during migration. Bald eagles are reported most winters. Mule deer browse the bottom land of the river valley and adjacent ravines, and coyotes are present in the area throughout the year.
