Roundtable on Reducing Violence

In November 2005 and March 2006 roundtable meetings were held in Edmonton and Calgary. Hosted by Alberta Gaming and Alberta Solicitor General and Public Security, more than 80  roundtable participants gathered to explore the issue of violence within the context of bars, nightclubs, and other licensed premises. Its purpose was to gather input, information and advice from stakeholders on the frontlines – from the people who work in, own, manage, regulate and protect the province’s licensed premises.

Communities across Alberta were represented through government agencies, municipalities, police agencies, industry and municipal associations, addictions counsellors, researchers and liquor licensees.

The issue of violence is complex. Before deciding to change any policies or legislation, reliable, proven data needs to be researched.

You can now view the entire summary report of the Alberta Roundtable on Violence In and Around Licensed Premises: Exploring the Issues .
