President's
Welcome
On
behalf of the members of the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society (APOS), we are honoured to introduce you to outfitted-hunting
in Alberta. With an excellent variety of trophy big game
animals and diverse waterfowl and upland birds, we are one
of the finest hunting destinations in the world.
Whether you enjoy wide open prairies, aspen parklands, boreal
forests, or foothills and mountains, you will find what
you’re looking for in Alberta. Perhaps you enjoy spot and
stalk, stand hunting, ATV’s or horseback. We’ve also got
a variety of accommodations to suit your taste. From modern
lodges to comfortable tent camps, we’ve got it all!
Our
History
Alberta
has a long history of outfitting, ranging back to the early
1900’s when guiding trips began in the eastern slopes of
the Canadian Rockies. Today the industry has over 425
licensed big game and bird game outfitter-guides and 1600
licensed guides in Alberta. An outfitter-guide is the
holder of an outfitter-guide permit, and in the case of
a big game outfitter/guide permit, enables the corporation
or individual to contract hunts with non-resident and non-resident
aliens through a regulated allocations system.
