The Law Commission of Canada is an independent federal law reform agency that advises Parliament on how to improve and modernize Canada’s laws.

The Law Commission of Canada was established on July 1, 1997 under an Act of the Parliament of Canada entitled the Law Commission of Canada Act.

This Act provides that the Commission is an independent departmental corporation that is accountable to the Parliament of Canada through the Minister of Justice.
