Financial Support for Training
Employment and training programs help adult Albertans get the skills they need to get a job, get a better job, or increase their skills to keep their job. Tuition, books and supplies, and living allowance may be available if you qualify as an eligible learner.
Alberta Works Income Support is available to eligible adults to participate in employment and training services.
Additional financial supports for learners include:
- Full-time training grants: HRE has developed an online estimator that can help you determine if you are eligible for financial assistance. The estimator provides an estimate of how much you may receive.
If you have submitted an Income Support Application for Learners Full-Time Study 2006/2007, you can look up information regarding current and pending funding applications on the Student Funding Inquiry System.
- Part-time training grants of up to $1,200 per term. This enables low-income Albertans to learn while they work part-time. It also increases the potential for persons with disabilities to benefit from part-time training.
An online estimator is available for part time training as well.
- Disability Related Employment Supports (DRES) provides assistance to Albertans in overcoming the barriers to employment created by their disability.
For more information on financial support for training, contact Alberta Human Resources and Employment or a training provider in your community. Eligible Albertans include those who require training to find and keep a job such as Alberta Works Income Support clients, Employment Insurance eligible clients and eligible apprentices.
