There are approximately 700,000 kilometres of different-sized oil and gas pipelines in Canada including gathering, transmission and distribution lines. If these pipelines were laid end to end, they would circle the equator of the Earth 17 times. In fact, nearly two-thirds of Canada’s total energy supply, both oil and natural gas, move through this intricate pipeline system before reaching the consumer.
